Tesla

Wall Connector Installation

There is no doubt that Tesla produces some of the most attractive, reliable and performance driven EVSE on the market today. Their Model S for instance can go from 0 to 60 in just 2.5 seconds and has full autopilot capabilities while their Model 3 has up to 220 miles of range on a single charge, more than twice that of a Nissan Leaf. That last point is important because charging a Tesla can be a bit of a challenge since the company uses a proprietary plug that can’t be used with standard Level 1, 2 or 3 EV Charging Station without an adapter. The Tesla Wall Connector is actually inside the vehicle for AC Charging. The company is aggressively building out what it calls its “DC Fast Charging” (DC Fast Charging bypasses the AC Onboard Charger/Inverter) but as of this writing that network is composed of a mere 600 charging stations in North America. So your best bet to ensure your Tesla is always properly charged in Ontario is to have a Tesla Wall Connector Installation performed by EVdirect.

Why Have EVdirect Perform Your Tesla Wall Connector Installation?

Tesla sells chargers for their EV Charging Station through their website. These High Powered Wall Connectors or HPWCs as they’re called come with all the components you need to set up an efficient charging station in your garage or in your business’ car park. Installing such a station however, is not a DIY job under any circumstances and may involve the installation of a panel if you don’t have an empty circuit within reach. The highly trained and licensed electricians at EVdirect are fully capable of performing whatever augmentations are necessary to the electrical system of your home or business in order to facilitate the Tesla Wall Connector installation.

More Affordable Than You Think

While the cost of installing the standard Tesla HPWC charging station at home isn’t exactly cheap it’s not prohibitively expensive either. And it should be remembered that operating an electric vehicle is typically much cheaper per mile than operating a standard internal combustion engine vehicle. So if you use your Tesla on a regular basis the installation should pay for itself in just a few short months. Installing a Tesla Supercharger in your home is another story altogether and one with no reasonable outcome, since achieving the power requirements would be virtually impossible. So stick to the standard Tesla HPWC installed by EVdirect and use the Supercharger network when you head out on your epic road trip.

The standard Tesla HPWC will allow you to fully charge in roughly 3.5 to 4 hours and comes with an 8 1/2 foot or 24 foot tether. If you choose to have the HPWC installed outdoors EVdirect can certainly do that for you though there will be some additional charges for the requisite weatherproof equipment.

Chevrolet

EV Charging Station

The Chevrolet Bolt follows in the footsteps of its predecessor the Chevy Volt hybrid and does the earlier model one better by being all electric. It’s a game changer in many ways for General Motors in that it also leaves most of their direct competitors (hello Nissan Leaf!) in the dust as far as range goes. The new Chevy EV gets an impressive 230+ miles off of a single charge which means you don’t have to worry about running out of charge on your long weekend drive in the country. The Bolt is also the first GM EV to support Level 3 DC Fast Charging. But for the most part you’re going to be charging at home using an AC charger. Chevrolet recommends you use the AeroVironment 32amp EVSE-RS AC charging station. They’ve even gone so far as to make this an “approved accessory”.

Chevrolet EV Charging Station Installation by EVdirect

The AeroVironment 32amp EVSE-RS charging station is a 240 volt AC Level 2 charger. This type of EV Charging Station is ideal for home use and is a very definite step up from the easy-to-use but sometimes painfully slow Level 1 chargers. While it does require professional installation this is something the licensed professional electricians of EVdirect can easily handle for you. When you have EVdirect perform your Chevrolet EV Charging Station Installation you’ll have the electric equivalent of a gas station in your garage. This 240 volt charger will allow you to ‘top up’ 40-50 miles of range in about 2 hours so you can come home, unwind from your work day, catch up on your personal business and then head out for a relaxing evening without worrying you’re going to run out of charge.

The Level 2 Rebate Advantage

Unlike with Level 1, Level 3 or Level 4 (Tesla) EV charging stations you’re eligible for a rebate of up to $1,000 when you have EVdirect install the AeroVironment 32amp 240 volt Level 2 charger for your EV. The program is called the “EV Charging Station Rebate”, (also known as the “Electric Vehicle Charging Incentive Program”) and to be eligible you only have to have received the Ontario provincial rebate on the initial purchase of your electric vehicle. The charging station rebate covers up to $500 of the purchase price of the charging station and up to $500 of the installation cost for a total possible rebate amount of $1,000. To make things even easier we’ll handle all the paperwork for you to ensure a positive outcome. Just one more excellent reason to have your Chevrolet EV charging station installation performed by EVdirect.

Nissan

EV Charging Station Installation

The Nissan Leaf is one of the most popular electric vehicles in the world for a number of good reasons: it’s largely made from recycled plastic (really), it provides you with a constantly updated display that shows your current operational range at any given time, it provides you with timely energy saving suggestions as you go, it has a top speed of 95 miles per hour and it costs an average of 3 cents a mile to operate as opposed to a comparable internal combustion engine that costs 12 cents a mile (given current average gas prices). About the only thing it can’t do is charge itself. For that your best bet is to install a Level 2 charger in your garage. Like Chevrolet, Nissan recommends the AeroVironment 32amp EVSE-RS AC Level 2 charging station.

Nissan EV Charging Station Installation: More Affordable Than You Think

The AeroVironment 32amp EVSE-RS AC Level 2 charging station uses standard AC current so there’s no converters to install. This type of charging station also comes with one other significant benefit: a rebate of up to $1,000. In 2013 the Ontario provincial government instituted what is known as the “EV Charging Station Rebate” or “Electric Vehicle Charging Incentive Program” to encourage the use of EVs. The program provides a rebate of up to $500 on the purchase of a Level 2 charger for any eligible EV. It also provides an additional $500 rebate to help cover the cost of installing the charging station in your home. To be eligible for the Ontario EV Charging Station Rebate you need to have already received the provincial rebate on the purchase of your Nissan Leaf (which you certainly did if you bought it in Ontario). EVdirect is happy to handle all the necessary paperwork for you so that you can be assured of a receiving the maximum allowable rebate on your Nissan EV Charging Station Installation.

The benefits of installing a Level 2 charging station don’t stop with the rebate however. Among other things the Level 2 charger EVdirect installs for you – whether it be made by AeroVironment or another high quality manufacturer – will charge your Nissan Leaf in less than half the time it would take to recharge it using a standard 120 volt Level 1 AC charger. The Level 2 charger is also compatible with a wide array of EVs produced by other manufacturers (including Tesla if you have the proper adapter). This means you can have the in-laws over and score some points by letting them top up their EV during dinner.
